Carl SpieringSpiering loses in second round at Martin IHRA event

“With tire shake you’re a sitting duck when it happens”

MARTIN, MICHIGAN (August 5, 2007) – Carl Spiering’s day at the IHRA Torco Racing Fuels Northern Nationals at the Knoll Gas Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan, ended with a second round loss in final Pro Modified eliminations Sunday.

“I’m satisfied with our weekend, qualifying well and going a of couple rounds in the Eaton Road Warrior,” stated Spiering after the event. “Our motor problems have been solved, but the 4:30 gear rule is difficult, and we’re working it out round by round.”

According to IHRA specs, Pro Modified cars must race with a 4:30 to 1 gear ratio in the car’s rear drive axle.

Spiering qualified fourth in the 16-car field in the Eaton Supercharged Pro Modified Chevrolet Camaro with a 6.109-second, 234.41-mph pass. After winning the first round against Dan Rowe’s 1963 Corvette from Rossville, GA, Spiering, of Jordan Station, ON, lost in the second round to Jason Hamstra of DeMotte, IN and was eliminated.

“In the first round Danny (Rowe) and I shook the tires, I was able to recover by peddling the car and ran a 6.31 at 232 miles per hour,” added Spiering. “Tire shake is a problem, especially with the super competitive entries in this class, and you’re like a sitting duck when it happens.”

Spiering was pleased to have three ERD (Engine Research & Development) powered cars qualify and make it into the second round. Mark Nielsen and his new 1967 Camaro from Brantford, Ontario, Jason Hamstra’s 1963 Corvette, the quickest and fastest torque converter driven Pro Modified race car in the world, and Spiering’s Eaton Road Warrior Camaro.

“Jason (Hamstra) had lane choice against us in the second round,” Spiering explained. “He got me on the tree by a bit and we shook, and he flat out beat us. When a customer beats you it shows just how competitive and sincere your program really is.”

Eaton entertained a great contingent of 450 Eaton customers and guests at the event.

The next event for the Carl Spiering Motorsports Team is the Second Annual Eaton PMRA Challenge in the Pro Modified Racing Association (PMRA) Drag Racing Series at Sanair, August 18 in St-Pie, Quebec near Montreal.
